Important DOT Changes Coming

December 18, 2017

The Department of Transportation (DOT) will be implementing changes to the required drug panel for DOT regulated employees on January 1, 2018. The required drug panel for all DOT employees will be updated to:

  • Include screening for hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxymorphone, and oxycodone under the current opiates panel
  • Add methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) as an initial test analyte
  • Remove methylenedioxyethylamphetamine (MDEA) as a confirmatory test analyte

Additionally, on December 8, 2017, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) reported that the minimum random drug testing rate for all covered employees will be increased to 50% effective January 1, 2018.

Please be aware that these changes will affect your company if you have PHMSA or FMCSA employees. TPS Alert recommends that you confirm with your Third Party Administration that these updates will be made to your program beginning January 1.
